Violist Hana Hobiger is one of three young musicians to be granted a 2017 Fritz Gerber Award – including a cash prize of CHF 10,000 and a scholarship to the Lucerne Festival Academy, also valued at CHF 10,000.
Born in Switzerland in 1989, Hobiger is currently studying for a masters degree at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, having graduated form the Queensland Conservatorium in Australia. She receives her Gerber Award alongside harpist Alice Belugou and saxophonist Rahel Kohler.
Established in 2015 by the Fritz Gerber Foundation, the annual awards support three promising Swiss musicians aged up to 28 years, with a focus on contemporary performance.
The selection committee consists of Lucerne Festival artistic director Michael Haefliger, composer and conductor Heinz Holliger, and teaching soloists from the Ensemble intercontemporain.
