Violinist Sofiia Suldina wins 2015 Concours Nicati in Switzerland

Violinist Sofiia Suldina has won the 2015 Concours Nicati – a biennial Swiss competition dedicated to the performance of contemporary music, and this year held between 4 and 9 September in conjunction with the Bern Music Festival.

Ukrainian musician Suldina wins CHF 16,000 (£10,600), while second and third place winners, harpist Estelle Costanzo and the Eunoia Quintet each win CHF 12,000 (£7,950).

The competition is open to instrumentalists, singers and ensembles aged up to 35 years of Swiss nationality or who are resident in Switzerland. All works performed throughout the contest must be written after 1950.

This year’s jury comprised Pierre Sublet, Heike Hoffmann, Martina Schucan, Xavier Dayer and Marcus Weiss.
