The New Zealand musician has been a second violin with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra since 2014
The Vienna Philharmonic has appointed New Zealand musician Benjamin Morrison to the position of first violin following a successful audition, the orchestra has announced on its Facebook page.
Since 2014 Morrision has been a second violin with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra, the Philharmonic's sister orchestra, but will now join the first violin section as a full member of both the Vienna Philharmonic and Opera Orchestra.
The 30-year-old multiple prize winner studied at the Kunst University in Graz with Yair Kless, and founded the Morrison Piano Trio in 2009.
