The Strad Masterclass: Augustin Hadelich on Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto

Augustin Hadelich: ‘I play the theme on the G string, because I feel as though violinists in the audience will throw rotten vegetables at me if I don’t!’

Augustin Hadelich speaks about performing Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto first movement to The Strad. The piece is performed in the video above by Gil Shaham with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev in 2012.

Hadelich continues The Strad’s marked-up sheet music series in association with Henle Verlag with a two-part article on the first movement of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto – giving bowings, fingerings and ideas for interpretation. Part one is published in our December 2016 issue. Download now on desktop computer or through The Strad App.
