The cellist explains why Paul Olefsky is her musical hero

He has an infectious love and passion for music

My hero is cellist Paul Olefsky. He is my mentor, teacher, partner, friend and husband of 23 years. I always draw great inspiration from his coaching and conversations. He studied with Casals, Feuermann and Piatigorsky, and he imitates their voices in his lessons, in stories full of humour – it feels like you have been taught by all of those old masters. He has an infectious love and passion for music, his mantra being: “Honour the composer’s markings first, then be yourself and be creative.”
