The 20-year-old Croatian violinist receives a cash prize of €5,000 and a number of performance opportunities

Luka Ljubas has won the eleventh Vaclav Huml International Violin Competition in Zagreb. The 20-year-old Croatian violinist, a student of Gerhard Schulz at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts, receives a cash prize of €5,000 and a number of performance opportunities.

Second prize, worth 3,500, went to Leonid Zhelezny from Russia, while third prize, worth 2,500, was awarded to Anne Marie Wehrmeyer from Germany.

Founded in 1977, the Vaclav Huml Competition marked its 40ths anniversary this year. Thirty-six competitors from 15 countries took part in the live rounds, performing for a jury including president Viktor Tretiyakov, vice presidents Tonko Ninić and Zlatko Stahuljak, and Shizuka Ishikawa, Goran Končar, Kimiko Nakazawa and Leonid Sorokow.
