Lawrence Power on the special qualities of the viola

‘Of all the stringed instruments, the viola is the greatest compromise acoustically…it shouldn’t really exist’

Leading British violist Lawrence Power speaks about the special qualities of his instrument and performs excerpts from Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Pentatonic Étude for solo viola and Walton’s Viola Concerto with the Philharmonia Orchestra and conductor John Wilson.

Power will perform the Bartók Viola Concerto with the Philharmonia Orchestra on 1 June 2017 at Royal Festival Hall in London.
