Video: a violin thief caught on camera

Watch surveillance footage of the moment a man steals a violin from the University of Utah

Wednesday, 25 June 2014

Surveillance video footage has been released of the moment a thief stole a violin from the University of Utah’s School of Music last week. The instrument, belonging to University alumnus John Shin, was taken by a man from an empty recital hall at around midday on 16 June. In the video, the man checks to see that the coast is clear before stuffing the violin into a garbage bag.

The violin is a Stradivarius ‘Viotti’ model, labelled ‘Scott Brown’ and made in 2011. Those with any information have been asked to contact Shin at JohnShin@gmail.com or Detective Smalley at Jennifer.smalley@dps.utah.edu.
