French violist Vincent Aucante replaces Olaf Hallmann in Gewandhaus Quartet

Monday, 14 January 2013

Vincent Aucante, the first solo viola of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig, has replaced Olaf Hallmann as violist in the Gewandhaus Quartet.

Aucante joined the Gewandhaus Orchestra in 2011 after serving as principal viola with the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra and the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. His chamber music activities have included performing in the Gabriel Quartet and the Via Nova Quartet.

Olaf Hallmann played in the Gewandhaus Quartet for seven years. His father, Dietmar Hallmann, was the quartet's violist from 1958 to 1993.

The quartet will perform for the first time in its new formation on 14 April 2013, when it performs an all-Haydn programme in the Gewandhaus's Mendelssohn-Saal.
