Detroit Symphony Orchestra offers free webcasts

Tuesday, 31 January 2012

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra has launched a high-definition webcast player allowing users to view a series of concerts for free. According to an Associated Press report, the orchestra said that it is the first US orchestra to offer a series of free webcasts.

The new webcast player mimics the interior of Detroit's Orchestra Hall, giving users the same view as audience members in the venue. Dimming controls mean that users can control their version of the house lights. Viewers can also tweet and follow a live feed, enabling them to interact with other users of the service. The piece being played is highlighted by a live repertoire tracker, and live programme notes are posted below the viewing window.
