15-year-old cellist Zlatomir Fung wins Klein Competition in San Francisco

The artist receives a cash award and performance opportunities around California

Cellist Zlatomir Fung, aged 15, has won the 29th Irving M. Klein International String Competition in San Francisco. He receives prizes worth $13,400, including a $5,000 cash award, and concerto and recital performances in Los Altos, San Jose, Santa Cruz, Napa Valley and San Francisco, California. Second prize was awarded to cellist Charles Seo and third prize to violinist Angela Wee.

Formerly a student of Emmanuel Feldman at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, Zlatomir Fung now studies with Juilliard School professor Richard Aaron. He was a silver medallist in the cello division at the 2012 International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in Switzerland.

Previous Klein Competition winners include violinists Jennifer Koh and Vadim Gluzman and cellist Alban Gerhardt, in addition to principal players in the Philadelphia and Cleveland Orchestras, the New York Philharmonic and Boston Symphony Orchestra.
