The inaugural Shanghai Isaac Stern International Violin Competition has extended the deadline for entries until 29 February due to ‘severe global weather conditions’. The announcement was made on the competition’s Facebook page last week in response to a number of difficulties experienced by candidates in completing the online application form – ‘due to broken internet networks or transportation issues’.

‘In view of the above circumstances, the Competition Organisation Committee expresses full understanding for the emergent situation, and therefore decides that for 2016 competition, the online application deadline will be extended to 29 February, 2016. The deadline for materials submission will remain unchanged – all materials must be postmarked and mailed by registered post by 29 February, 2016.’

Launched by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the first SISIVC takes place from 14 August to 2 September 2016, open to international violinists aged between 18 and 32, with a grand prize of $100,000.
