The musicians of the San Francisco Symphony have agreed to return to the concert stage after reaching an agreement with the management over a new contract. Although the agreement is subject to the approval of the orchestra’s board of governors and of all 103 of its players, concerts are set to resume at Davies Symphony Hall (right) on 2 April.
According to a statement from the management, details of the agreement will neither be released nor discussed until the new contract is ratified. However, it said that all the orchestra’s concerts scheduled for the coming week will take place as scheduled, including a week-long series of free concerts for primary school children and teachers.
The musicians’ most recent contract expired on 15 February. The strike began on 13 March and resulted in the cancellation of a four-date tour of the US East Coast. In 1996 a strike by the San Francisco musicians resulted in the cancellation of 43 performances.
