The Chicago Chamber Musicians (CMM) have announced that they will discontinue all artistic activities from 31 August this year due to financial difficulties. The society of 13 professional artists, which was founded 28 years ago, will not present a 2014-15 season.

‘While CCM filled an important niche in Chicago’s musical scene for many years, numerous factors have made it more and more difficult for CCM to avoid operational deficits in recent years and CCM leadership decided to take a prudent approach and suspend artistic operations while we continue to be solvent,’ said CMM board chair Michael Woolever.

Founding members of the ensemble, which has produced numerous recordings and commissioned 13 works, include Chicago Symphony Orchestra principal clarinet Larry Combs, CSO hornist Gail Williams, and violinist Joseph Genualdi. Other members include violinist Jasmine Lin, cellist Clancy Newman, double bassist Bradley Opland and violist Rami Solomonow.
