A bow box containing eleven bows, including several examples by top-quality French makers, has been stolen from a train in southern England. Leading British bow maker Peter Oxley was travelling with the collection from London to Norwich when the theft occurred.

Among the bows stolen were two nickel-mounted violin bows by Etienne Pajeot; a silver-mounted 'Vuillaume'-style violin bow by Charles Peccatte; a gold-mounted violin bow by W.E. Hill & Sons; a silver-mounted violin bow by Eugene Sartory; and an extremely rare 'swanhead'-model silver-mounted violin bow by Pierre Simon.

Anyone with any information as to the bows' whereabouts is asked to contact the Colchester office of the British Transport Police on +44 (0)1473 693715, quoting the crime reference B08/085410/2010.
